New Frisch Chessed Initiative Aims to Help Young Children not Fall Behind on Reading Skills

A new Frisch Chessed Initiative, launched on May 21st by Dr. Sclar, aims to ensure that young children do not fall behind on their reading skills, according to an email sent out to the student body. This initiative aims to have students record videos, and then the videos will be uploaded and distributed. Frisch Remains Closed Amid Coronavirus Epidemic. Rabbi Ciner announces Policy on Final Exams and Summer Programing

Rabbi Ciner announced in meetings to parents during the week of April 27 that the Frisch School will remain closed until it is deemed safe, will not have any final exams, and he left open the possibility of Summer School. Rabbi Ciner said that he was awaiting a decision from Governor Murphy whether school could open, even if just for a single day. Rabbi Ciner also informed the parents that there would be no final exams, however, there will be a final project in every class. Rabbi Ciner said they will discuss in May whether to have optional summer school to lighten the load on students next year.
Frisch Closes as First Student Tests Positive

The Frisch School will remain closed through at least next Monday, March 16th, according to an email sent to the community by Rabbi Ciner. According to the letter, one student, who had previously been in self-quarantine and showed symptoms, has been tested and found to have COVID-19. In consultation with the Commisioners of Health Education, Rabbi Ciner moved to extend the current closure to allow time for the building to be cleaned thoroughly, but the balance of the student and faculty bodies is not under quarantine. During the closure, the school intends to use remote learning technologies to engage students and continue studies.
Frisch to Test Out Remote Learning

Rabbi Ciner announced via email today that Frisch will be testing out remote learning tomorrow, Monday March 9th. Students will have a Gemera Shiur tomorrow at varying times; they will take place through Microsoft Team's, which the school has been utilizing throughout the year. Rabbi Ciner informed the student body that he will keep everyone updated, and that the school is still expected to reopen on Wednesday.
Frisch Shuts Down as Quarantined Student Displays Symptoms

Rabbi Ciner announced via email that The Frisch School will be closed until Wednesday March 11th, as a self-quarantined student began showing symptoms and is in the process of being tested. Rabbi Ciner emphasized that this is out of an "abundance of caution". He urged everyone to remain safe. Everyone should check their emails for more information.
Frisch Prepares for Possible Coronavirus Closure

Rabbi Ciner told the student-body on March 5th to take home their teffilin and any books students might need for both tomorrow and Monday. Students were previously told at mincha to take home their teffilin. This comes amid an increase in Coronavirus cases all across the tri-state area.
Frisch To Remain Open Amid Coronavirus Scare

Rabbi Ciner told the student body during a school-wide Mincha today, March 4th, that the Frisch School will remain open amid the Coronavirus Scare. Rabbi Ciner told students that the rumors spreading in school have been false, and reminded everyone to wash their hands with soap often(as soap is more effective than purell). Moments ago, NJ Governor Phil Murphy announced that New Jersey has its first presumptive positive case of Coronavirus, so we will keep you updated if and when changes occur.
Coronavirus Hits Jewish Day Schools

Numerous Jewish Days schools throughout Westchester and the Bronx will remain closed on March 4th 2020, as they seek to prevent the spread of coronavirus after a confirmed case of Covid-19(Coronavirus) in the Jewish Community. The infected person was identified as Lawrence Garbuz of New Rochelle, according to the New York Post. Additionally, after initially remaining in school, all Frisch Students from New Rochelle have been asked by our principal, Rabbi Ciner, to stay home until Sunday to stop the spread of the coronavirus. According to an email sent by Rabbi Ciner, Frisch has been instructed by the New Jersey Department of Health to remain open. I would like to point our readers to the CDC's website, which provides resources on how to protect yourself from the spread of disease.
New Jersey AG Grewal Visits Frisch

On December 19th, NJ State Attorney General Gurbir Grewal visited Frisch in the wake of the shooting at a Kosher supermarket in Jersey City. He told the student body about his upbringing as a Sikh, what it was like to be a Sikh after 9/11, and how he got into government so people would see someone like him representing the government of the United States. After 9/11, General Grewal said that some people told him to go back to where he came from. General Grewal said “People do hateful and violent things for no other reason than what you worship, what you look like or what your profession is” and that he and his team are all working to allow everyone “live their lives freely and not worry about what they look like, where they come from, what they believe or who they love”.
Meat Lunch Returns

The first meat lunch of the year was provided on Wednesday, September 25th, as grilled chicken/schnitzel, pulled BBQ brisket, home fries, and foot-long hot dogs were sold in the Frisch School Cafeteria. As a dessert option, they sold apple turnovers, chocolate danishes, brownies, and black and white cookies.
Talmud and Art

In order to explore the meaning of the metaphor, the People of Israel are to Hashem “like clay in the hands of the potter”, Rabbi Jaffe’s Sophomore Judaic classes made pottery in the Frisch art room. Frisch’s Visual Arts Director, Mrs. Winslow, taught these classes how to make their own pottery while explaining how the clay could be formed using their hands.
Cold Temperature Acknowledged by Administration

According to an Email sent out by Danielle Tamir, Rabbi Ciner’s assistant, to the student body on Sept 24, Yeshivat Frisch is working on fixing the constant cold temperature in the school. According to the email, “[Rabbi Ciner] has heard your shivers and concerns and looked into the temperature issue and apparently there is a problem with the unit”. Some areas of the building were cold and some parts were hot. This was caused by an issue in which the cold air was redirected from one area to another area.
Model UN Tryouts

Tryouts were held for the Model UN Club on Monday, September 23rd in room 4. Students competing for one of the four open slots were asked to answer to debate the recent attack on Saudi Arabian oil facilities in 30 seconds or less and answer questions on the topic after they gave a brief presentation. Those who make the team will take on the roles of ambassadors from various countries and debate current issues.
Selichot Schedule

On Monday, the 23rd of September, the Frisch School unveiled the selichot schedule. On Monday, first period started at 9:20, and then there was a modified schedule until fifth period. On Tuesday and Wednesday, first period started at 9:10, and a modified schedule ran until third period. On Thursday, first period will run from 9:10 to 9:30, and then the schedule returned to normal. On Friday, third period was skipped.
The Morning Music

On the morning of Monday, the 23rd of September, the Frisch School office started playing Hebrew music through the loudspeaker system to mark the five-minute break between the end of breakfast and the start of first period at 8:50. According to Toby Moses when asked why the music was being played said “Rabbi Ciner. Rabbi Ciner likes it”. The music is being piped in through the school’s newly installed intercom system, which is louder than the old system from last year.
Frisch Students and Yachad

Starting September 23, there will be a van leaving from Frisch going to the Yachad center every week. There are only 14 spots available in the van to the center. “We go and hang out with the Yachad participants. They are your friends just like everyone else”, according to Liora Dreifus(‘22), an active Yachad Attendee.
Intramural Football League

The Frisch Intramural Football League(IFL), has started up again this year. IFL is for boys who are interested in football and looking for an activity to do before the weekend. IFL meets on Fridays from 1:30 to 3:00 pm and is available for all Grades. The deadline is the 20th of September, and the season starts after sukkot. New Learning Opportunities

On Wednesday September 18, Frisch launched two new learning programs: Frisch-YU Kollel and Frisch-Legacy Beit Midrash Fellows. These programs allow juniors to learn with students in the Rabbi Isaac Elchanan Theological Seminary and Legacy Heritage Jewish Educators Project at Stern College for Women. The Announcement board displayed “The goals of the program are to enhance Frisch as a yeshiva and makom Torah”.
Girl's Soccer defeats Kushner 4-2

On Wednesday, September 18th, The girls’ soccer team held its first scrimmage beating Kushner’s squad 4-2. The scrimmage was a pre-season game, which allowed the students to practice and hone their skills in advance of the regular season. Sheri Silberman (‘22) scored two goals in the effort.
Frisch Students Learn about Israeli Elections

On Tuesday, September 17th, Frisch students had the opportunity to learn about the Israelis polls and its electoral process. Rabbi David Sher, Director of Israel Education walked the students through the different parties, and what makes Israel’s governmental system unique. Students were prepared to analyze and discuss Israel’s recent parliamentary election which will determine its Prime Minister.
The Testing Calendar was Released

On September 16th, the Frisch School released the testing calendar on Haiku. During the week of the 16th, all grades will have a math test. The calendar ensures that there are no more than 3 tests in a week and no more than 1 Judaic studies class in a week.
Senior Trip to 9/11 Memorial

On Monday, the 16th of September, the senior grade visited the 9/11 memorial in lower Manhattan. During their visit, they considered good versus evil, the importance of service, and how every second of their life is extremely valuable. The program was run by the Frisch School faculty, including Rabbi Bashist. They visited the 9/11 Museum and the reflecting pools, which are where the towers once stood.
Drop-In Center Now Open!

The Frisch Library Drop-In Center opened its doors on Monday, September 16th as teachers began providing help for students in a variety of classes. The Drop-In Center is available Monday through Thursday and is staffed by Frisch faculty from all departments. Teachers from different subject areas are available on a rotating schedule which was posted all around the school.
Club Fair

Over 100 clubs participated in the Club Fair on Tuesday, September 10th. The event, held in the back of the cafeteria, allowed students, new and old, to explore their interests and find extra-curricular activities which would engage them. A directory was available which guided students as they had the opportunity to sign up for the teams, magazines and special interest groups.
